We found a picture of the berger picard online when we were reserching breeds to add to our family. Our German Shepherd, Atilla, was getting up there in age and we knew that the time would come to have to put Atilla to sleep. Before that day we wanted Atilla to help us raise our next big dog. We wanted to have another Shephard, but not a German, because I believe I would expect to much from it. We both love the look of our Terrier mix, Fizzgig, and wanted another shaggy dog. Berger Picards fit the bill. Knowing about shepherds we decided that this breed would be a  perfect match.

Gromit had 5 good months with Atilla before we put her to sleep.  Fizzgig and Gromit got to be there when she took her finale breath and they said their canine good-byes.

We will not be breeding, Gromit will be neutered.  In the future we will add another Picard to our family.

About the Berger Picard

The Berger Picard or Picardy Shepherd is a French herding dog. It is thought to be the oldest of the French sheepdogs. They are incredibly loyal and a wonderful guard dog. The breed was hit hard by WWI making them a rare breed. Breeders are working on bringing this breed back. 

As with most shepherds the Berger Picard may be standoffish with strangers and have a stubborn streak. They tend to have a wonderful way of understanding body language, as most shephards do, which works well on a farm.
